Annette Stanley, MA LPC
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Arizona and the owner and supervising counselor at Renew Counseling Center which opened December 2017. I graduated from MidAmerica Nazarene University with a Master’s Degree in Counseling and an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy. I completed my masters-level internship with Abundant Life Counseling Ministries of Abundant Life Baptist Church in Lees Summit, Missouri, where I worked with individuals, couples, families, and groups addressing many life issues and relational concerns. Following graduation, I started Thrive Counseling & Consulting located in Overland Park, Kansas, where I continued to serve the community and refine my counseling skills under doctoral level supervision. I worked primarily with couples, families, and individuals (including adolescents) while also consulting with local churches about how best to address life issues and relational concerns within the Christian community. In 2014, I closed the practice when my family relocated to Arizona. I then served as a Licensed Associate Counselor with Northwest Christian Counseling (Glendale, AZ) where I continued counseling couples, families, and individuals where I completed my post-graduate supervised work experience.
Beyond graduate school, most counselors complete further specialty training, and I am no exception. I have trained in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy and completed levels I-III of the Gottman Therapy Model for couples. I am certified as a PREPARE/ENRICH facilitator and have specialized training in using sand tray within the counseling setting.
I use both traditional and intensive therapy models with couples and studied the intricate aspects of neurobiology and trauma. I have obtained a certificate in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, trained to effectively treat mood disorders, and learned to utilize the Murray Method for trauma. In my counseling practice, I integrate proven psychological models of therapy such as Emotionally Focused Individual and Couple Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy with Biblical principles (for those who provide consent) in a safe, confidential and compassionate environment. The result is that hearts are restored and hope is renewed.
Finding qualified clinicians to overcome life’s obstacles that bring loss of joy and hope, brokenness, and pain can be challenging. For clients who desire a faith-integrated experience, it can be even more difficult. Renew Counseling Center exists to support healing for those who identify with brokenness, those crushed in spirit, those with troubled relationships, and those who lack hope due to mental illness. Believing that you were formed by our creator God with physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs, I would be honored to journey with you to regain hope and healing.
I am married to Erik and have three children ranging in age from 19 to 24. Erik and I were college sweethearts and have experienced our share of significant challenges along the journey as a couple (and different challenges individually), and while we bear scars, we also have experienced the reward of growth and healing. We continue to point our hearts towards each other and to Jesus to honor the covenant we made to each other now 29 years ago. I am a trophy of God’s grace. My promise to you is to walk gently and humbly by your side as one who knows the depth of suffering and the joy of renewal.
