About Renew Counseling Center
Annette Stanley, MA LPC
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor authorized to provide professional counseling services to members of the community in Arizona, Virginia, and Florida (Telehealth only). She is an approved Clinical Supervisor in Arizona and owner of Renew Counseling Center. I graduated from MidAmerica Nazarene University with a Master’s Degree in Counseling and an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy. My masters-level internship with Abundant Life Counseling Ministries of Abundant Life Baptist Church in Lees Summit, Missouri, afforded a diverse experience counseling individuals, couples, families, and groups addressing many life issues and relational concerns. Following graduation, I went into private practice (Thrive Counseling & Consulting, Leawood, KS) where I strengthened my counseling skills under doctoral level supervision and also provided consultation to area churches to equip leaders to develop appropriate support for the psychological and relational needs within their congregations. In 2014, my family relocated to Arizona, and I continued in private practice (Northwest Christian Counseling, Glendale, AZ) and completed my post-graduate supervised work experience. I opened Renew Counseling Center in December 2017 and until late 2023 saw clients in office in Glendale, Arizona. Our family relocated to Virginia and my practice shifted to virtual sessions. In December 2025, I found a new office in Lynchburg, Virginia, where now am able to serve clients in person again while I maintain my virtual practice to clients in Arizona and Florida.
After the completion of graduate school, most counselors complete further specialty training. I am a lifelong learner and has trained in various specialty areas and empirically tested methods. This speciality training equips me to apply specific treatment modalities using best practices for various mental health concerns, trauma, and relationship challenges. I have trained in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy and completed levels I-III of the Gottman Therapy Model for couples and is certified as a PREPARE/ENRICH facilitator. Some of the treatment models I use include Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy.
I use both traditional and intensive therapy models with couples and studied the intricate aspects of neurobiology and trauma. I have obtained a certificate in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, trained to effectively treat mood disorders, and learned to utilize the Murray Method for trauma. Annette has a strong understanding of the Bible and is passionate about integrating proven psychological models of therapy with Biblical principles (when desired in counseling and consent is given) in a safe, confidential and compassionate environment. The result is that hearts are restored and hope is renewed.
Finding qualified clinicians to overcome life’s obstacles that bring loss of joy and hope, brokenness, and pain can be challenging. For clients who desire a faith-integrated experience, it can be even more difficult. Renew Counseling Center exists to support healing for those who identify with brokenness, those crushed in spirit, those with troubled relationships, and those who lack hope due to mental illness. Believing that you were formed by our creator God with physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs, I would be honored to journey with you to regain hope and healing.
About me personally, I am married to Erik and has three children ranging in age from 20 to 26. I lived overseas in Indonesia as a child where my parents served as missionaries and also in the Chicago suburbs in middle and high school. I enjoy spending time outdoors doing things like hiking, paddle boarding, and pickleball. I enjoy good food and honest conversations with genuine people. I have been in a time of transition over the last few years due to our family’s relocation and my children all moved into their 20s.
My journey as an individual is like many I support. I am just a human learning to live life with purpose, chosen joy, and hope no matter what hardship life’s terms may bring. Many times we don’t get to choose the “terms of life” but God is greater. Annette’s marriage bears witness to the blessings of covenantal love. Grace spans over 30 years of learning to love one another and honor God as we raised our children. I have seen for myself the sacred connection between client and counselor, and while my heart bears the scars brokenness of the world brings, they are patched with God’s love and goodness, a trustworthy place of hope and sustaining life. I can attest that restoration, renewal and joy is possible. I can also hold space for the process it takes to get there and the difficulty it takes to learn to dwell there. It is okay to need help, and it is okay to be in process. My passion is to point people to the gospel message found in Jesus and to help others overcome misconceptions of God, His love, and his way. And while this is my passion, I also want to sit with clients who, like me, ask the hard questions of life, its meaning, etc. without judgment. My promise to you if you choose to bring me into your journey of healing is to walk gently and humbly by your side and then bear witness to the good that comes from leaning into what is hard.
I see clients ages 13 and older in individual, couple or family appointments and can be reached directly by telephone at (602) 633-4032 and by email at Annette@renewcounselingaz.com.
